The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power – Title Announcement | Prime Video

A new age begins September 2, 2022. Journey to Middle-earth with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

About “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”
Amazon Studios’ forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

  1. My personal read: the voice actress isn’t bad, but her voice is very high and airy compared to Cate Blanchett. The change in delivery which I think would have been a director’s choice only seems to highlight this.

Add in the fact this line from the first film is absolutely Iconic because of how resonating and weighted the voice is, and you’re going to get a negative response no matter how good the new voice actress is overall. Whoever chose this line of script as the voiceover for the trailer did this poor voice actress no favors, because of coarse it’s going to be compared to the original which single-handedly transported viewers into the world.

They banked on nostalgia in this trailer and they got the negative side of it in the responses thanks to their own bad choices. Don’t take it out on the actress though. It’s not her fault, and she’s fighting a losing battle in living up to an absolute legend.

  2. Man, I can't wait for the fantasy genre to circlejerk LOTR yet again for the 14th billionth time. Who's ready for the spinning Tolkien gonna be doing in his grave as the fantasy genre continues to miss the point of LOTR?

  3. If the show’s bad, it won’t be bad because someone misread “browner of skin” as black or because a morally bankrupt studio is producing it. By that logic, Tarantino never made a good film for the Weinstein Company.

  4. Straight away the voiceover is off; the speaker sounds too young, has no gravitas, the performance is wooden, and it pales in comparison to the depth of Blanchett's achingly melancholy performance. I smell a stinker.

  5. Amazon, just stop. Don't attempt it. This isn't going to end well for anyone. Just apologize, and tell everyone you're backing away now. Sometimes it's better just to accept you can't reasonably improve upon something.

  6. Ummm can we get a different narrator? That was bad! I hope this show isnt just a bunch of made up bs. I've read too tolkien lit and this show will probably suck. At least howard shore did the music. Libs made the show so the main character is probably going to be gay.
